How it started

At JellyShot, we believe our work isn't to give a company its purpose, but to build the system that lets it fully live it. That belief is exactly what drew us to Justice Served Coffee.

When we met Rob Kramer and his team, we discovered a vision that extended far beyond coffee. Justice Served Coffee was born from the conviction that every formerly incarcerated person deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity, purpose and economic independence.

The goal was to build a movement capable of changing the narrative around incarceration, shifting the focus from stigma and limitation to possibility, entrepreneurship, and human potential.

Our mission was to transform this vision into a brand that could inspire customers, partners, investors and the community it was created to serve.

Goal

Before developing the brand, we immersed ourselves in the realities surrounding incarceration and reentry in the United States.

We explored the social and economic barriers returning citizens face, the systemic challenges behind recidivism, and, most importantly, the personal stories of resilience, hope, and transformation that rarely receive visibility.

One question guided the entire process:

How do we create a brand that transforms coffee into a platform for economic empowerment and human connection?

Our goal was to build a brand that could:

  • Inspire people to become part of a movement through their purchase power.
  • Create an identity rooted in dignity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and community.
  • Build a narrative capable of supporting customer engagement, fundraising, partnerships, and long-term growth.
  • Position Justice Served Coffee as a platform for creating opportunity, not charity.
Result

What began as a branding project evolved into the creation of a purpose-driven ecosystem designed to inspire action.

Through a deep understanding of the social context, the economic realities of reentry, and the aspirations of returning citizens, we built a brand that reflects hope, resilience, creativity, and collective growth.

Transforming Social Insight into Brand Strategy

Our research led us to redefine the role of the brand. Justice Served Coffee is not about incarceration, it is about what comes next.

We developed a strategic narrative centered on entrepreneurship, human connection, and economic opportunity, creating a brand that invites people to see beyond labels and participate in building new futures.

Building a Brand that Feels Human

We developed the brand strategy, storytelling framework, verbal identity, and visual direction to communicate warmth, optimism, creativity, and belonging.

Inspired by themes of freedom, transformation, artistic expression, and community, the identity celebrates the richness of human experience while reflecting the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

The creative system uses color, texture, and movement as symbols of transformation from confinement to possibility, from exclusion to belonging.

Equipping the Brand to Grow

Beyond the identity itself, we translated the strategy into practical business tools that would help the company scale.

We developed the website narrative, sales storytelling, elevator pitch, and investor presentation, creating a consistent communication system capable of engaging customers, partners, and investors around a shared mission.

Impact

Justice Served Coffee demonstrates that brands have the power to reshape not only markets, but also perceptions.

By placing entrepreneurship, creativity, and human dignity at the center of its story, the brand transforms a simple cup of coffee into an invitation to create opportunity, foster belonging, and support meaningful economic change.

It doesn’t treat returning citizens as recipients of a second chance, but as authors of their own next chapter, entrepreneurs, makers, and contributors whose potential was never absent, only unseen.

Each cup becomes a point of change in a larger shift, in how businesses hire, how neighborhoods welcome, and how a culture defines who gets to start again. When a brand develops human capacity instead of dependency, it doesn’t simply grow a company; it regenerates the story an entire community tells about itself. At JellyShot that is our work – designing the systems that let a business deliver on a purpose bigger than itself.
